Lever
The Lever family can be traced as far back as the birth of Samuel Lever in around 1803 in Bolton Le Sands, Lancashire. There are many many Levers from Bolton and the town is richly steeped in history shaped by the Lever family throughout the years. The Lever Brothers who went on to be the most successful soap manufacturers in Britain, were from Bolton and opened their factory in nearby Liverpool. Sir Samuel Hardman Lever is a descendant of Samuel Lever who was born in Bootle and became an accountant and civil servant, receiving many honours. (updated August 2013)
