    Hi,

Do you know the family history of Emma Watson-Bates? My family name is Watson-Bates and we have not come across any others. Our family goes back to Killyleagh, Co Down Ireland before they move to Western Australia about 1901-2.

    Hi Glenice,

Emma was born in 1866 in the district of Greenwich, although on censuses it states Woolwich. Her father was George Watson-Bates – he had seven children who were all named Watson-Bates. At the time of her marriage in 1894 she was living at 110 Peckham Park Road, presumably with her parents. Unfortunately I don’t have any more information as Emma Louisa is not related to me, my great great grandfather remarried to her. If I find out anything more about where they came from, I’ll be sure to e-mail it to you.

My grandfather was Harry Gargaro who was married to Mary Ellen Chambers. I am leaving for Italy on the 19th September and if you have any further information or know where I might be able to find out anything for us all then let me know. I will be in Rome and have friends there who would be able to help with access to any records (being Italian) …Neil Gargaro said he thought that the family moved up to near Florence? I’ve always wondered why and how they both met with Harry being from London and Mary coming from Suffolk but there’s nobody around now to ask. It just shows how we should preserve all the family history. Many thanks for what you have put together.
